Hey guys, so I know that for myself, as a student, living in Toronto, and loving fashion, it is HARD for me to spend my money wisely... and by wisely I mean spending money on groceries rather than clothes (but sometimes a garment can fill you more than food...am i right?).
Fashion is huge right now, and with so many different trends, it's hard to not want to buy everything. But lets be honest, I can't afford it (and wishing that I'm going to win the lottery isn't helping). So this is the next best (and cheaper) thing. DIY-ing!
One of my favourite trends right now are collars... crisp collars, leather collars, sparkly collars OH MY. The great thing about this trend, it is sooo easy to create your own! All you need is:
- An old shirt (thrifting is best)
- Scissors
- Needle
- Thread (any colour)
- Sequins (any colour you want!)
- Good music to sing aloud to obnoxiously
First you want to take your old shirt and cut the collar off...you want to cut as close as possible to the actual shirt, making sure you don't cut of the button/stand of the collar
Put your music on; seriously, it gets you in the zone (I am listening to John Legends new hit, Tonight: Click HERE
Thread your needle (I chose a mint green thread) and put it through the back tip of the collar, working your way around until you reach the opposite side. I chose purple sequins, and added little bits of gold.
Now, you may not want your stand to be covered in sequins, so this is completely optional, but the stripes and purple weren't my favourite combo, so I added black sequins just until the collar covered the stand.
AND VIOLA...you now have.. a magnificent collar that can be used under any shirt/sweater/dress! And make as many as you want, they're cheaper than buying 5 different shirts PLUS, you can say you made it....and maybe even start selling them.. (c'mon, we broke students have to find some way to eat...aka shop)

Keep your eyes out for new trends; there's always a way to DIY!
Until next time,
Yazmin
